Tich Miller wore glasseswith elastoplast-pink frames
and had one foot three sizes larger than the other.
When they picked teams for outdoor games
she and I were always the last two
left standing by the wire-mesh fence.
We avoided one another's eyesstooping,
perhaps, to re-tie a shoelace,or affecting interest in the flight
of some fortunate bird, and pretendednot to hear the urgent conference:
'Have Tubby!' 'No, no, have Tich!'
Usually they chose me, the lesser dud,
and she lolloped,
unselected,to the back of the other team.
At eleven we went to different schools.
In time I learned to get my own back,
sneering at hockey-players who couldn't spell.
Tich died when she was twelve.

Welcome to 2009
Happy New Year!! :)
ok a wee bit delayed but anyhoo... The River is I suppose a suitable song to descirbe what's going on with me. I've been quite overwhelmed with everything since coming back from coop. Even the doctor descirbed me as having 'post placement symptoms'- something he's working on getting recognised!
Couldn't sleep til after 4 last night. Got up made toast, cleaned the bathroom and a little bit of kitchen, hand washed a few bits. Skipped classes today. Taking a new stressfree attitude to college. Being too serious and beating myself up for not being the perfect student hasn't got me far before, it has resulted in an F and D2 so F that! On Munchkins advice I'm to go have a pint in the college bar. :)
I would like to encourage a fuck it attitude to college.

The River, best not sang by Garth Brooks
THE RIVER
You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin' as it flows
And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores...
andI will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow
Has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
And say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tide...
yesI will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captainI can make it through them all...
yesI will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination....
You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin' as it flows
And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store

Silent night in Irish
today I sang a bit of this in German class because everyone else had to sing Christmas songs in their own language.
Oíche chiúin,
oíche Mhic Dé,Cách 'na suan,
dís araon,Dís is dílse ag faire le spéis,
Naí beag gnaoi-gheal ceanántais caomh
Críost ina chodladh go séimh.

Mack the Knife
Es ist hat nicht so viel mit die Dunkelheit auf Englisch zu tun. Aber ist leichter zu verstanden! :)
And the shark, he has teeth
And he wears them in his face
And Macheath, he has a knife
But the knife you don't see
On a beautiful blue Sunday
Lies a dead man on the Strand
And a man goes around the corner
Whom they call Mack the Knife
And Schmul Meier stays missing
As do some rich men
And his money has Mack the Knife,
On whom they can't pin anything.
Jenny Towler was found
With a knife in her chest
And on the wharf walks Mack the Knife,
Who knows nothing about all this.
And the minor-aged widow,
Whose name everyone knows,
Woke up and was violated
Mack, what was your price?
And some are in the darkness
And the others in the light
But you only see those in the light
Those in the darkness you don't see
But you only see those in the light
Those in the darkness you don't see
And the shark, he has teeth
And he wears them in his face
And Macheath, he has a knife
But the knife you don't see
On a beautiful blue Sunday
Lies a dead man on the Strand
And a man goes around the corner

Mackie Messer
An 'nem schönen blauen Sonntag
Liegt ein toter Mann am Strand
Und ein Mensch geht um die Ecke,
Den man Mackie Messer nennt
Und Schmul Meier bleibt verschwunden
Und so mancher reiche Mann
Und sein Geld hat Mackie Messer
Dem man nichts beweisen kann
Jenny Towler ward gefunden
Mit 'nem Messer in der Brust
Und am Kai geht Mackie Messer,
Der von allem nichts gewußt
Und die minderjährige Witwe
Deren Namen jeder weiß
Wachte auf und war geschändet
Mackie welches war dein Preis?
Refrain
Und die einen sind im Dunkeln
Und die anderen sind im Licht
Doch man sieht nur die im Lichte
Die im Dunkeln sieht man nicht
Doch man sieht nur die im Lichte
Die im Dunkeln sieht man nicht
Und der Haifisch, der hat Zähne
Und die trägt er im Gesicht
Und Macheath, der hat ein Messer
Doch das Messer sieht man nicht
An 'nem schönen blauen Sonntag

Sonny don't go away
1 Sonny lives on a farm, in a wide open space 4 1 4 1 You can take off your sneakers and give up the race 5 You can lay down your head, on a sweet river bed 4 1 5 Sonny always remembers the words Mamma says 1 Sonny don't go away, I'm here all alone 4 1 4 1 Your Daddy's a sailor who never comes home, 5 Nights get so long, and the silence goes on, 4 1 5 I'm feeling so tired and I'm not all that strong Sonny carries a load, though he's barely a man There ain't that much to do, but he does what he can And he watches the sea from a room by the stairs And the waves keep on rolling, they've done that for years and for years It's a hundred miles to town, Sonny's never been there But he goes to the highway and stands there and stares And the mail comes at four the mailman is old Sonny still dreams his dreams full of silver and gold Sonny's dreams can't be real, they're just stories he's read There's stars in his eyes, there's dreams in his head And he hungers inside for that wide world outside But he knows he can't hold it, though he's tried, and he's tried
